Exosome Therapy for Skin and Hair
Author: Uzm. Dr. Oya Oylum Argun, dermatologist

What is exosome therapy?
Exosome therapy is a treatment used to support renewal in the skin and scalp. Exosomes are very small vesicles that play a part in communication between cells. In the treatment, a product containing exosomes is applied to the skin or scalp.
Exosomes in pigmentation treatment. Pigmentation is a long-term condition and is not handled with a single method. At the practice, exosomes are used in pigmentation treatment alongside BBL laser, pigmentation mesotherapy, PRP, microneedling, gold needle and peels, sometimes on their own and sometimes in combination. Which methods are combined is decided after a skin analysis and examination.
Exosomes in hair treatment. In hair loss, exosomes can be applied to the scalp together with microneedling. In hair loss, the cause is assessed first; if there is a cause such as iron deficiency or a thyroid problem, that is dealt with first.
Can it be combined with other treatments?
Exosomes are among the options alongside device-based treatments such as BBL laser, gold needle, fractional laser and carbon peel. Which treatment is combined with which is planned for each person.
The number of sessions varies with the condition of the skin or scalp. Exosome therapy is planned and carried out by Dr. Oya Oylum Argun at the practice in Muratpaşa, Antalya.
Frequently asked questions
When should I see a doctor about hair loss?
Assessment is needed if shedding lasts longer than a few months, the hair has visibly thinned or the hairline is receding. Shedding that is concentrated in particular areas, and itching or flaking of the scalp, are also reasons to see a doctor. Sudden shedding after a feverish illness, surgery, childbirth or a change of medicine is assessed as well. In the assessment, the priority is to find the cause of the shedding. Scalp treatments such as exosomes are also decided on after this assessment.
When is daily hair loss considered normal?
Daily shedding within a certain range is considered normal, but taking this number alone as a measure can be misleading. More reliable signs are how long the shedding has lasted, whether hair density is decreasing, whether the shedding is everywhere or in particular areas, and whether there is a change at the hairline.
Why does hair loss start months later?
Stress, illness or a change of season can push many hairs into the resting phase at the same time, but the shedding shows up months later, not at that moment. A hair in the resting phase stays in place and sheds when its time is up. For this reason the patient often does not remember the cause, and at the examination the events of recent months are asked about.
What causes dark spots on the face?
Dark spots on the face are most often caused by the sun. Ultraviolet rays stimulate the cells that produce pigment, and pigment collects unevenly in some areas. Hormonal changes such as pregnancy and the contraceptive pill, the mark left by a healing pimple, and some substances that react with sunlight can also cause spots. The cause of the spot is determined first.
What darkens pregnancy-related spots?
The sun increases pregnancy-related spots the most. The visible part of sunlight can also darken these spots, and tinted sunscreens containing iron oxide give extra protection against this light. Broad spectrum sunscreen, a hat and shade at midday are the basic precautions. Sunscreen is renewed every two hours.
