Lip Filler

Lip filler means placing a product containing hyaluronic acid into the lip tissue. Hyaluronic acid is a molecule already present in the skin, and it holds water.

Three things decide the result: the density of the product, the amount given and the depth at which it is placed. Treatment along the lip border does not give the same result as treatment in the body of the lip. The same product looks different at different depths.

The lips are not considered separately from the rest of the face. How full a lip should look is judged together with the chin, the nose and facial proportions. So the decision is made at the consultation, looking at the face as a whole.

Swelling and bruising can follow the treatment; these are expected and temporary. The lip area has a rich blood supply.

In people with a history of cold sores, the treatment can trigger a cold sore. In that case preventive treatment is planned beforehand. It is not done during pregnancy, while breastfeeding or when there is an active infection in the area.

The effect is temporary. The body gradually breaks the product down, and it needs repeating at intervals. How long it lasts depends on the person and the product used.
