Seasonal hair loss peaks in September and October

Extra hair on the comb and in the shower in autumn is, most of the time, a sign of a seasonal cycle and not of a new problem. But if the shedding goes on for months, the hairline is receding or there is thinning in particular areas, the cause may not be seasonal.

Extra hair on the comb and in the shower in autumn is, most of the time, a sign of a seasonal cycle and not of a new problem.

Hairs are not all in the same phase at once. In the summer months, more hairs move into the resting phase; these hairs fall out a few months later. The timing lands on September and October.

This picture usually limits itself and settles within a few months. But if the shedding goes on for months, the hairline is receding or there is thinning in particular areas, the cause may not be seasonal.

Iron deficiency, thyroid problems, the period after a fever illness and some medicines can cause a similar picture. That is why they need to be told apart.
