Some skin products and procedures are not used in pregnancy or are put off until after the birth. You need to ask your doctor before using any product.

The main ingredients not recommended in pregnancy:

  • Vitamin A derivatives. Creams containing retinol and retinoids are not used in pregnancy. Vitamin A derivative medicines taken by mouth for acne are strictly forbidden.
  • Hydroquinone. It is found in creams for dark spots. It is not recommended because the skin absorbs it so well.
  • High-strength chemical peel products. Products with strong salicylic acid and deep peels done in the clinic are left until after the birth.

Aesthetic procedures such as Botox, fillers and laser are also not done during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Can pregnant women have skin care? Gentle cleansing, moisturising and sun protection carry on in pregnancy too. For procedures that use a device or chemical ingredients, you ask your doctor first.

What should be done to avoid dark spots on the face in pregnancy? The sun is what most increases the mask of pregnancy. A broad-spectrum sunscreen, a hat and shade around midday are the main precautions.
