Your rights when you are treated in Türkiye

Being a foreign patient does not change your patient rights. These are written rules. Knowing them makes it easier to ask.

Being a foreign patient does not change your patient rights. The following apply to everyone treated in the country.

  • Being informed in a language you understand. What the procedure is, how it will be done, its risks and the alternatives are explained to you. If there is a point you do not understand, you have the right to ask again.
  • Written consent. The form you sign before a medical procedure shows that you have been informed and that you agree. You can ask for time to read the form and ask questions before signing. You also have the right to withdraw your consent.
  • Protection of your data. Your health information is special category personal data. It is protected under the Personal Data Protection Law. Using your photograph needs a separate permission, and you do not have to give it.
  • A way to complain. If you are not satisfied with the service you received, you first raise it with the establishment. If you get no result, you can apply to the provincial health directorate.
